The concert program features three chamber pieces by young composers, all exuding a youthful spirit. Enthralled by Panufnik's Trio, Jan Maklakiewicz enthusiastically wrote about the accents of youthful rebellions, vibrant temperament, fresh bursts of invention, and a vibrant and diverse emotional spectrum present in the work.
After a Dream is one of Gabriel Fauré's most famous pieces; set to an anonymous Italian poem, it narrates an imagined escape of two lovers in the form of a dream, but the final verse unrelentingly brings the dreamer back to his sad reality as daybreak arrives.
Felix Mendelssohn's deep friendship and affection for his friend prompted him to dedicate the Piano Trio in C minor to Louis Spohr. We know that they performed this piece together at least once.
