Leszek Możdżer, one of the most important Polish jazz musicians, will come to Szczecin to present his unique interpretation of the Old Testament Psalms of David, along with the Maritime University Choir and special guests. The artist first explored the theme of the Psalms in the early 21st century. According to Magdalena Sasin’s report for “Gazeta Wyborcza” in 2002, Możdżer's Psalms do not resemble the everyday sacred music. It isn't easy to define the style of this music. It incorporates elements of jazz – indeterminacy and unrestrained improvisation, liturgical music – spiritual focus, and even something from classical music – care for form despite its freedom. It also evokes pagan ritual music, with immense energy and power, which once helped to worship mighty deities.
This time, Możdżer will be supported by Olo Walicki (bass guitar), Patrycja Betlej (drums), and the Choir of the Maritime University of Szczecin under the direction of Sylwia Fabiańczyk-Makuch.
Leszek Możdżer is a world-class pianist renowned for his improvisations on Chopin themes. He is acclaimed in music for his unmatched technique, imagination, complex interpretations, and lyrical emotionality. He has collaborated with the most significant domestic and international jazz artists, has a discography of over a hundred titles, and was part of the jazz revolution in the 1990s.
