The global success of Vienna's New Year's concerts is said to result from a combination of several essential ingredients: an excellent orchestra, a hit-filled program, a magnificent golden concert hall, and a television broadcast. The latter may not be part of the evening at the Szczecin Philharmonic, but the other three will undoubtedly be present.
Additionally, there will be a fourth, entirely unique ingredient. During this concert, the percussion section of the Szczecin Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra will celebrate its 35th anniversary of uninterrupted activity with the same lineup: Dariusz Jagiełło, Jorge Luis Valcárcel Gregorio, Jacek Wierzchowski, and Bogdan Pilak. It is no coincidence that we will be welcoming the New Year with fiery rhythms. The program will be filled among others with timeless pieces of Spanish music and works inspired by Spain, including Ravel'sAlborada del gracioso, which won over the initially sceptical writer Romain Rolland; the famous Dance from de Falla's opera La vida breve – a piece full of passion and captivating rhythms, evoking the traditions of Andalusian flamenco; and Albéniz'sAragon from the Spanish Suite – a musical tug-of-war between the soloist and the orchestra, culminating in a furious coda. This is how the New Year can be celebrated only at the Philharmonic.
