MDF Festival starts on September 23!

MUSIC.DESIGN.FORM Festival is a space where modernity and innovation meet the classics. The festival responds to contemporary trends and the expectations of the audience. Hybrid concert solutions, the use of modern technologies, or the streaming provided for this year's edition will allow you to participate in the concerts not only in person but also online.

The third edition of the MUSIC.DESIGN.FORM Festival, which will be held on September 23-27, 2020, is all about soundscapes. We will approach the subject, widely considering the acoustic, environmental and architectural context, from the musical side, but also in the non-musical dimension.

At the Philharmonic and online

Three concerts also broadcast online await us. They will take us to the world of sounds inspired by nature or a hike through the jungle, mountain trails or the endless ocean.

On Thursday, September 24, at 9 pm, we will revive the bodies of the participants and all their senses during the DJ live set dedicated to the festival by Agnieszka Wypańska and Łukasz Dziedzic. On this occasion, we will turn the white lobby of the Philharmonic into a canvas for spectacular visualizations.

On Friday, September 25, at 7:00 pm, the Szczecin Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Christian Schumann and accompanied by pianist Zuzanna Całka, will present the colourful and vivid music of Ludovico Einaudi.

Saturday's concert on September 26 at 20:00 will be a journey into yourself, a deep breath in harmony with nature and the flowing time. A pre-premiere of the latest music project of Hania Rani and Dobrawa Czocher will take place. Their album is planned for the beginning of 2021. The piano and cello, complemented by the soft sound of synthesizers and compelling visualizations will take us to the world of the most sensitive, inspired by nature sounds.

The icing on the cake will be the concert of the Echo Collective on Sunday, September 27, at 19:00. The artists will present a fantastic project: Jóhann Jóhannsson's string quartet, "12 Conversations with Thilo Heinzmann". The calmness and precision of Echo Collective's work and performances make the thought-out simplicity of the pieces convincing, and the landscapes painted with them, although minimalist, expressive and compelling.

All these events will be available online at livefilharmonia.szczecin.pl. During the three of them, we will meet in person at the Philharmonic, and the final concert will be an online broadcast prepared especially for the MUSIC.DESIGN.FORM Festival.

MDF goes out into the city

As every year, we will discover the sounds of the city together with the artists and participants of the MDF festival. This time we will look for them during a musical walk with the city guide Przemek Głowa. This event will take place on Saturday, September 26, at 4:00 pm. It will start in the new Municipal Harmony Zone – Syrenie Stawy, where an hour earlier, at 3 pm, a two-day workshop for young people will have its finale. During the outdoor concert, the compositions created during the MDF festival will be performed.

Not only music

Directly under the geometric roof with characteristic skylights, in the Level 4 gallery, we will present an exhibition of works by the visual artist and photographer – Witek Orski. For the landscapes leading the festival, it will be a counterpoint and will activate our imagination with monocoloristic works. The vernissage will take place on the first day of the MUSIC.DESIGN.FORM festival – on Wednesday, September 23 at 19:00.

We will not forget about our youngest fans and music lovers. On Sunday, September 27, during a workshop for children "Which way to the sound?" we will discover music among objects that might not seem to be playing. Then we will create a sound map to help you find sounds.

There will be an audio installation that we will see online this time. The project by Piotr Matosek, "Kurki. Lipsync for Identity" deals with civilization and climatic threats faced by humans, analyzed in this context: the construct of the division into nature and culture.

Building illumination shows

During the festival, the Philharmonic will itself become an artistic object both inside and outside. Once again, the white facade of the building facade will become a kind of canvas. We invite you to special illumination shows accompanying the MDF 2020 Festival, for which Pushka Studio in Szczecin is responsible. On 23-27 September from 20.00 to midnight.
