On the occasion of the upcoming jubilee of the Orchestra, we have prepared a unique surprise for music lovers – a new musical release that is a tribute to the patron of the Philharmonic. The album ‘Mieczysław Karłowicz – Rebirth’ will be on sale from October 17th.
On the occasion of the 70th birthday of the Orchestra and again to pay a tribute to the patron of the institution, the Mieczysław Karłowicz Philharmonic in Szczecin has prepared an exceptional musical release. The album
'Mieczysław Karłowicz – Rebirth' is a joint work of the Szczecin Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra and our Artistic Director, maestro Rune Bergmann. The disc contains
Symphony in E minor ‘Rebirth' Op. 7 by Mieczysław Karłowicz.
The choice of this work is not accidental, because this composition perfectly illustrates the entire spectrum of emotions and states of mind accompanying us in key moments of life, and is reflected in the rich history of our Orchestra. The very personal statement of the composer allows us to individually interpret the composition from the perspective of our own experiences, as well as allowing a special journey in the wider historical and social context – says Dorota Serwa, Managing Director of the Philharmonic.
Symphony E minor ‘Rebirth' Op. 7 (1902) is one of the first orchestral works and at the same time the only symphony by Mieczysław Karłowicz (1876-1909), written at the culmination of the his studies in Berlin under Heinrich Urban. The composition, the work on which began probably in 1900, was performed for the first time
in Berlin on March 21, 1903, and the composer himself was conducting.
"He did unbelievably well, keeping the mind awake and bringing out all shades of dynamism" (Stanisław Barcewicz). As one of the two compositions by Karłowicz (next to the poem Returning Waves), it contains a detailed literary program from the composer, which was published in the newspaper "Słowo Polskie".
Here is what the conductor and Artistic Director of the Szczecin Philharmonic, Rune Bergmann, says about the work of Mieczysław Karłowicz:
"This is one of the most unusual compositions I have ever heard. The possibility of recording complete orchestral works by this Polish composer is a real honor for me. Every time I open the score, I find something new and exciting there."
The album 'Mieczysław Karłowicz – Rebirth' is released on a
SuperAudio Compact Disk, to provide the seekers of the best sound quality with a quality rendition of the work. The album is the second release of the Philharmonic in Szczecin in which one can hear the compositions by the patron of the Institution. The first album ‘Karłowicz. Filharmonia. Szczecin’ was released in 2016 and received a nomination for a Fryderyk in the category ‘Album of the year – symphonic and concert music’.
